Six Students, One Shared Journey Forward

Amid the ongoing violence in eastern Congo, six remarkable young women from Goma have defied the odds and achieved a milestone that once seemed impossible. Living under constant threat from the rebel group M23, where the sounds of gunfire often echo, they persevered, completed their high school education, and are now beginning their college journeys.

These students — Dorcas Lusombo, Queen Bahati, Arianne Kito, Arielle Chikuru, Esther Katungu, and Alphonsine Mwisange — represent a generation determined to rise above conflict and build a better future for their communities.

Each of these young women has now embarked on a new academic path, pursuing degrees that reflect both their passions and their desire to uplift their communities:

  • Dorcas Lusombo – Economics and Management

  • Queen Bahati – Nutrition

  • Arianne Kito – Dietetics and Nutrition

  • Arielle Chikuru – Dietetics and Nutrition

  • Esther Katungu – Business Administration

  • Alphonsine Mwisange – Medicine

Their commitment to education, even in the face of unimaginable challenges, is deeply inspiring. Each of them carries the hope of using their knowledge to strengthen local healthcare, nutrition, business, and economic systems; areas critical to rebuilding and sustaining their communities in eastern Congo.

Thank You for Standing with Us

Your support makes it possible for these young women to continue their studies and work toward a brighter future. A big thank you to everyone whose generosity has helped make their college journey a reality.
