At International Child Advancement (ICA), we love celebrating one of the most meaningful parts of our work: the relationships between sponsors and students. These connections go far beyond financial support. They offer encouragement, stability, and a powerful reminder to every child that they are seen, valued, and not alone.
This month, we are honored to share the story of Ekaete and Moïse. Their journey reflects how one committed relationship can open doors, restore hope, and shape a future.
Meet Ekaete

When Ekaete Bailey first learned about ICA, she was already sponsoring children through other organizations. Yet something changed when ICA’s founder, Evelyn Kessler, shared photos of children still waiting for sponsors. One young boy immediately captured her heart.
“Moïse leaped off the page,” she recalls. “He reminded me of my own son.”
That moment marked the beginning of a life-changing partnership.
Meet Moïse

Today, Moïse is a 10th grader with big dreams and a clear sense of purpose. He hopes to complete his university education, become an engineer, and one day use his career to support orphanages starting with the one that first welcomed him when he had nowhere else to go.
“Without Madame Ekaete, I could not be in 10th grade today,” he shares. “She is more than my mother and father who are gone. She is more than anyone else in my life.”
Over the years, Ekaete has prayed that her support would help Moïse stay hopeful, resilient, and focused on his education. “I believe Moïse is very brave,” she says. “His courage has carried him through many hardships, including being hospitalized with malaria when he was a young boy. He has lost so much, yet he continues to work hard in school and care deeply about himself and others.”
For those considering sponsorship, Ekaete offers simple and heartfelt advice: “Commit for at least one year. Even if it feels like a sacrifice, you will see the impact. ICA makes it easy—the updates are regular, the cost is reasonable, and the funds go directly to the children. That is a blessing.”
Their story reminds us that sponsorship is not only about covering school fees. It is about investing in dignity, potential, and long-term opportunity. It is about walking alongside a child as they grow into the leader they are meant to become.
Become the connection that changes a future
Today, more children in the Democratic Republic of Congo are waiting for a sponsor—students who are eager to learn but cannot attend school without support. You can be the person who opens that door.
When you sponsor a child through ICA, you are not only funding education. You are providing stability, encouragement, and a pathway to independence. You are helping break cycles of poverty and creating leaders who will give back to their communities.
If you have been thinking about sponsorship, we invite you to take the next step. Even one year of support can transform a child’s life.
