This year, our goal is to raise $20,000 to purchase a small building, an additional small plot of land, desks, chairs, sewing machines and additional supplies to expand our 3 Vocational Training Programs: Sewing, Computer Training and Agricultural Programs.
Currently, space is either donated (if available) once a week or rented twice a week to run the programs. By providing them their own space, the orphanage will have a secure location to not only store all the machines/equipment but also they can increase the frequency of classes offered.
These Vocational Training Programs are vital to the advancement of the children - they will either obtain employment upon completion or they will be equipped with skill sets necessary to begin their own businesses and therefore becoming self-sufficient.
Sewing Program (launched in 2017): Funds raised during our first Empowered Fashion Show Fundraiser, allowed us to purchase 3 sewing machines and materials. The children in Goma made clothing that were worn during the event. There are over 15 children enrolled in the sewing program. Learn more about the events here:
Computer Training Program (launched in 2018): Over 10 children are enrolled in our Computer Training Program. They're learning to use Microsoft office to increase their Administrative skills.
Agricultural Program: In the spring of 2019, we received an anonymous donation to purchase a small plot of land to help grow food for the children. We decided to not only grow food, but also teach the children a very useful skill. Over 20 children are enrolled in our Agricultural program where they are learning how to raise crop and livestock.
In September of 2019, they enjoyed their first harvest! That first batch covered one meal for half the children. We hope to purchase an additional small plot of land to increase their volume.
We hope you join us in leaving a positive mark in these children's lives.
