Land purchased to scale our agriculture vocational training program
Ripple effects of the Ukraine/Russian war are being felt across the world, especially in the Democratic Republic of Congo where the eastern region is often plagued by violence and unrest.
These events have negatively impacted the ease of commerce, trade, safety and food security. We have seen an exponential increase of food prices, impacting the nutrition we can provide the orphans at GUAOA Orphanage in Goma, D.R. Congo.
In 2022, we purchased a plot of land to expand our agriculture vocational training program. We will use a multi-prong strategy to create value from this land:
Enrolled children will learn to grow crop and livestock farming
Harvested fruits and vegetables will be used for the children's consumption, helping to address their nutritional needs
Surplus crop will be sold to create revenue for the children's needs and to re-invest into the agriculture training program
Knowledge gained can help them secure future employment opportunities or entrepreneurship
Sustainability is critical for the success of this program. We're excited to have land that will help us sustain the agriculture program and scale learning opportunities for GUAOA Orphanage and children in the community.
Thanks to everyone that contributed to this very important project.
Together, we will fight child hunger!
