New Food Partner!

International Child Advancement (ICA) has partnered with Food for Orphans (FFO) to raise funds for GUAOA orphanage in Goma, Democratic Republic of Congo.

Food for Orphans’ founder, Gary VanDyke, began helping orphans in 1999. After visiting several children’s’ projects in Lima, Peru, witnessing poverty, poor health and physical conditions of the orphans he met, he determined the biggest challenge was the lack of food.

With nearly 400,000 orphans starving to death every year, the mission of Food for Orphans is to supply at least one nutritious meal per day to as many orphans as possible. FFO ensures that all donations are properly used and carefully distribute every gift in accordance to the greatest need.

In Goma, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), the needs are great within the country and the orphanage. The World Food Programme reports “One of the largest and least developed countries in Africa, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) ranked 179th of 189 countries on the 2019 Humane Development Index. DRC is now the second largest hunger crisis in the world after Yemen. (https://www.wfp.org/countries/democratic-republic-congo).

The COVID 19 pandemic has put greater strain on a country still torn by civil war and the country has not yet recovered from the effects of the Ebola pandemic.

As a result of war, poverty and disease, it has been reported that about 11% of the entire child population are orphans (https://thetruthsource.org/orphans-crisis-from-war-and-aids/ ). The impact of the pandemic has significantly increased the cost of food as day laborers have been quarantined and the border from Rwanda shut down, preventing food from coming into the DRC.

Food for Orphans’ commitment to find and feed orphans who truly need their help recognizes the nutrition needs of GUAOA orphanage therefore FFO hopes to provide GUAOA with funding starting January 2021 and depending on the success of the campaign, the support will continue through December 2021.
